Advanced Energy Technologies

Preview:

Alternative energy - energy derived from sources that do not use up natural resources or harm the environment.
Alternative energy refers to energy sources that have no undesired consequences such for example fossil fuels or nuclear energy. Alternative energy sources are renewable and are thought to be "free" energy sources. They all have lower carbon emissions, compared to conventional energy sources. These include Biomass Energy, Wind Energy, Solar Energy, Geothermal Energy, Hydroelectric Energy sources. Combined with the use of recycling, the use of clean alternative energies such as the home use of solar power systems will help ensure man's survival into the 21st century and beyond.
Uses of energy
The purpose of producing energy is to meet three types of societal needs:
- Mechanical work (electrical equipment, for example)
- Heating supply
- Heat removal (cooling systems)

Energy and Society
Energy is a crucial social variable and has sporadically been of interest to sociologists. Recent world events and trends have revived interest and concern. This review traces key themes and arguments in the sociology of energy and critically evaluates the literature. The discussion is organized into four sections: energetic theories of society, macrosociology of energy, microsociology of energy, and energy policy and other special topics. A concluding section assesses the state of the field and speculates on its future directions.

Narrative/ Things I learned
The topics in this content was clearly explained by the reporters. Because of the topics about energy, I sited some of my energy tips to save energy, by my own simple ways. These are:
DO shut off the lights when you’re done using them
DO replace a burnt-out light bulb with a new compact fluorescent bulb. Fluorescent bulbs use 75 percent less energy, and they last 10 times longer.
The governments also must think of some affordable sources of energy such as the use of wind power, solar power, etc. There are many options but we are lack of actions.
